vW Activity is an automated, functional assay used in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with vWD. It uses a monoclonal antibody against an active site on the molecule. This assay allows a functional assay for vWD patients to be available 24/7 with minimal user input (unlike the technically demanding Ristocetin Co-Factor assay) For the great majority of vWD patients, the results of this assay are comparable to the Ristocetin Co-Factor assay, however, a small number of a sub-group of Type 2 vWD will give higher results with this assay compared to the Ristocetin Co-Factor assay. The assay is always performed in parallel with Risotcetin Co-Factor assay on diagnostic samples to detect any discrepancies and flag them on the patients notes as not suitable for activity assay
