Multi-lobed Nucleated white blood cell, part of the immune system. Neutrophils are actively phagocytic and engulf bacteria and other micro-organisms and micro-particles. High neutrophil counts are associated with acute bacterial infection, inflammation and chronic myeloid leukaemia. Low neutrophil counts are associated with disorders affecting the immune system, exposure to harmful chemicals (and chemotherapy).
