Antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative bacteria is increasingly problematic. In some instances, no single antibiotic can be identified to treat serious infections. Our Microbiology department can performed the Multiple Combination Bactericidal Test (MCBT) to identify combinations of antibiotics that might be used for effective therapy. This test can be performed on a range of Gram-negative species that are associated with antibiotic resistance including Enterobacteriales (for example, E. coli and Klebsiella) as well as resistant strains of Pseudomonas, Burkholderia, Stenotrophomonas and Acinetobacter.
