IgG is an indicator of successful measles virus vaccination or indicator of prior measles virus exposure or infection. It should be noted that the assay is not sensitive enough to confirm all cases of vaccine induced immunity. Immunocompetent patients with 2 documented doses of measles vaccination can be assumed to be immune without testing. Please note IgG assay can be affected by passively acquired antibody where blood products have been administered, or by maternally acquired antibodies in the first months of life.
