This is a serological assay used to detect antibodies to hepatitis B virus (HBV)e antigen (anti-HBe). Used to help determine disease stage/activity in patients who have HBV infection. Automatically tested by the laboratory in all new Hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) positive samples. Although patients testing HBeAg negative, anti-HBe positive are often referred to as 'low infectivity' some have high levels of circulating virus.
