A funtional fibrinogen assay. Thrombin is added to anticoagulated plasma and the time taken for clot formation is measured. The time taken is concentration dependant (the lower the level the longer the time) and this assay is used in cases of fibrinolysis. It is used in conjunction with the PT-derived fibrinogen to investigate suspected dysfibrinogenaemia (the PT-Derived result will be normal, the Clauss result will be low)
