Factor XI (also known as plasma thromboplastin antecedant) is a non-vitamin K sensitive coagulation factor, produced in the liver. Factor XI is activated by Factor XIIa, Factor Xia then activates Factor IX. Deficiency of Factor XI is sometimes referred to as Haemophilia C. It is a heterogenous disorder with Factor levels not always indicating bleeding tendancy. The PT is normal and the APTT is prolonged in Factor XI deficiency
