Prothrombin (Factor II) is converted to Thrombin (II a) during the generation of a clot, Thrombin converts soluble Fibrinogen to insoluble Fibrin which precipitates and cross links to form a clot. Prothrombin is a vitamin k sensitive factor synthasised in the liver. Deficiencies of factor II result in a bleeding disorder.
