Total IgE is sometimes measured in the investigation of allergy, however the normal range is very wide and levels correlate poorly with clinical disease. Very high levels of IgE are seen in atopic eczema, asthma, parasitic infections, lymphoma and liver disease. IgE myeloma is very rare.
